about

Well I like this one quite a lot - as ever it will only make sense long after we're dead so there's really no need to stop and hear any of it, let alone download the thing and kid ourselves we'll get round to hearing it properly one day - there is no "properly" with music like this - or nowadays with music like anything.

............................

Yes it is another of my standard-issue "bitty" albums of rural miniatures made on the bedroom floor of my city-centre terraced house using my battery-powered keyboard which I love very much, and occasionally my charity shop acoustic guitar which I don't like at all. And as bloomin usual the same thing happened here as happens everywhere on this huge page which must take up about half of Bandcamp's bandwidth (?) but which gets about one visitor per week. I started making this album thinking that it would be lots of dreamy beat-less humming gently-droning waftings and oozings - and that is what I am naturally good at (if only) - but dear god the blind stupid ambition of "progress" creeps in and somehow my fingers leave my hands and try to turn everything into Boards Of Canada. I do love BoC, and I would love to make albums like their first couple.

But it would be a bit like me buying six planks from B&Q for some bookshelves and then suddenly changing direction and deciding I want to build a luxury log cabin. So this is what happens when you use 4 AAA batteries to try to sound lush and clever and amazing, and my crappy charity-shop acoustic guitar is my attempt at Jimi Hendrix.

And yet, in spite of the huge sad gap between what I want to do and what I end up doing, there are accidental moments where things go wrong enough that it all turns out right-ish. There are things here which I like lots or there were when I did them.
