about

hissy scratchy scruffy ambient - the first time I heard (bits of) these tracks I thought they were sufficiently odd and rough and "outsider" to be justified in a world of a billion-per-second new ambient uploads of perfect-yearning identicals all aiming for the blissful heavenmall promised to us when we are all finally the same - oh so happy that time will be. The second time I've heard (bits of) these tracks they don't sound so off-kilter after all - but who's going to hear this stuff a second time around / - or even a first / When I was a kid my music fandom consisted of buying one LP per year and playing it 20 times a day - today my music fandom consists of downloading 80 albums per day and hearing none of them, ever.

Between my late teens and my late 40s I was seriously alcoholic and am lucky to have survived - alive, face too old, body still okay, brain very foggy. I still go on occasional binges, but nothing like as often, this is a very different era of my life - I'm glad I'm virtually over it, but nothing comes close to the rollercoaster fun-hell of those old years - losing a huge addiction like that is exactly like grief - whatever you replace it with never comes close - it's like what Churchill said: boozing is the biggest waste of time on the planet, apart from everything else. I'm trying to convince myself he was talking about music-making.

If anyone does give this album a bit of a go, it feels like it's best heard quietly. If that doesn't work, zap it up to a million and treat it as HNW. Same applies to everything I've ever done.
