about

The third/final album in my series of quick quiet lofi keyboard works in memory of the countryside here in the south in January - a time which will never be forgotten by those of us astray enough to go out in the mud and the rain in the lockdown peace.

All music created on my battery-powered keyboard and then tweaked or left alone in Audacity here in Southampton in the final days of January 2021.

All distortions and glitches and incomprehensible volume disparities and annoying hyper-bassy rumblings are entirely intentional.

PLAY QUIET !!!!!!!!!!!

MY OPINION OF THIS ALBUM -

Out of Hymen, Hymn and this one, this one came hardest. Hardly surprising - Hymen was basically a compilation album, Hymn was made in about 2 very lucky days where everything went right, no idea how. This album is a bit of a mess - and yes I'm biased, but I think it's a beautiful mess.

It's my Strangeways Here We Come - some sloppiness and what feels like filler, except I really can't tell any more which tracks are the weakest, and the result is my own favourite album of the three. I don't like those two gloopy reverb-heavy piano tracks near the end, but when I removed them I realised that they added a necessary otherworldly slowed-down feel to the album.

It sometimes feels like there's too many ambient tracks and I wished there were more tinkly keyboards instead. But when I added more tinkly keyboards I realised the album was sounding too bitty and needed more ambient tracks to help retain the slow background-y feel that I wanted.

In a thousand years, when The Wire has discovered me and I am famous, the world consensus will be that this is the weakest of my three Rural-Naive electronics albums. And I do understand why. But why should I care? - I'll be dead - and now, for me, there are more beautiful tracks on this stroppy scrappy difficult eccentric album than on the other two put together.
